Enmore Theatre: Floor ‘collapses’ at packed Genesis Owusu concert

The floor of a major Sydney music venue has spectacularly “collapsed” just two songs into a set on Thursday night.

The floor of a major Sydney music venue has spectacularly collapsed just two songs into a set on Thursday night.

There was a full house at the Enmore Theatre as thousands packed in to see critically-acclaimed Aussie singer Genesis Owusu, when the incident took place.

Head of editorial for news streaming service Flash, James Law was one of those enjoying the return of live music in the Harbour City.

He said Owusu was just a couple of songs into his set when the floor “literally collapsed” — bringing a hault to the entertainment.

He then posted video showing venue staff trying to move crowd members — some of whom didn’t seem best pleased — away from the a huge sinkhole in the dancefloor.

Thankfully nobody appears to have been hurt.

Mashable editor Caitlin Welsh was also at the gig and said Owusu came out to tell people that there was a 4m drop under the sagging carpet and he would have to reschedule.

“You guys are f**king crazy … but this was actually really dangerous,” he said.

She said she was disappointed that people were booing the venue staff.

“I know people are frothing for a dance but are we really, post-Astroworld, booing and flipping off venue staff who are trying to make sure people don’t get hurt?” she said.
